Syrah/Shiraz

I’ve developed a soft spot for syrah in the last few years, as even the Australians have moved away from the fruit bombs of not that long ago, and the shelves and wine lists around the province are well-represented by syrahs and shirazes of note – in all prices imaginable. Rather than sweetness and fruit, we are treated to savoury and spice, herb, and smoke characters making syrah (and shiraz) a fine choice any day of the week. Tom Firth
