Northern Chicken

I’ve been dying to try Edmonton’s Northern Chicken since I first heard about it, and I was certainly not disappointed. I’m a confit junkie and once I saw confit legs, I was sold. Still moist and juicy and huge! But of course I had to try the fried chicken too and it was everything you’d hope for, especially with sides of excellent potato salad, oozing honey thyme cornbread, baked beans of course – and wait for it… Doritos Mac ‘n Cheese!

Fried Chicken 3 pieces $14, Confit Chicken 2 Legs $14, all sides $6 at Northern Chicken, 10704 124 Street NW, Edmonton, 780-756-2239, northchickenyeg.com

Espresso Café

There’s a lot to enjoy at the new Espresso Café, but while I was there recently the house-made salads to take away caught my eye, and I just had to try the Butter Bean Salad. Soft, plump butter beans bask in a Mediterranean tomato sauce with garlic, herbs, and peppers. I wolfed down half of it cold when I got home and warmed the other half up to have with toast. Either way, I’m going back for more!

Butter Bean Salad $2.99/100g at Espresso Café, 273 10 Street NW, Calgary, 403-475-2525, espressocafeyyc.com, @ espressocafeyyc
