Milk Bones with Wheat Germ
Making milk bones at home is easy and inexpensive, and you can customize them according to your dog's taste. Try adding a spoonful of peanut butter to the dough, a shake of cinnamon or a small handful of grated cheese.
Preheat oven to 350° F.
In a large bowl, stir together flour, wheat germ, skim milk powder and salt. In another bowl, stir together the stock, oil, egg and honey. Add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients, and stir until well blended.
Gently knead the dough a few times on a lightly floured surface, and then roll it out ½ cm-1 cm thick. Cut into desired shapes and in sizes suitable for the size of your dog with a cookie cutter or knife. Transfer to an ungreased cookie sheet and prick each cookie a few times with a fork.
Bake for about 20 minutes, or until pale golden and firm (you may need to bake them longer, depending on their size and thickness). Turn the oven off, but leave them inside to harden as they cool.
Store in a tightly sealed container. If they have any moisture left in them, freeze any that aren't eaten within a week.
