All Calgary Co-op’s food stores are now exclusively selling fresh Alberta beef, building on the long partnership between the co-operative and Alberta farmers and ranchers. The “Only Alberta Beef” commitment is the first time a major grocery retailer in Calgary and area is promising only locally produced fresh beef.
Modern Steak has introduced Modern Benchmark – their own line of hand-selected steaks from Canada’s highest rated Black Angus bull for marbling, which they purchased 18 months ago. On the menu, you’ll find top grade AAA fillet, striploin, T Bone, and Ribeye to buy while you dine, and take home with you.
Canmore’s Bow Valley BBQ produces all-natural barbeque sauces and condiments, and has won a whopping five awards at the 11th Annual Hot Pepper Awards. This is the second time this year that Bow Valley BBQ has received award recognition for its unique flavour profiles. ‘Total Jerk Sauce’ took home: Best Overall Habanero Sauce, Best Wing Sauce, and Best Sauce in the Ethnic category. Winged Buffalo Hot Sauce took top spot in the Sweet & Savoury category, and Blueberry Merlot Steak Sauce took second place for Fruit Based sauce.

Rocky Mountain Wine & Food Festival has released its 2018 dates, with Early Bird tickets available until September 7 at rockymountainwine.com. With over 200 booths and 700 drinks to savour, you can look forward to indulging in a selection of wines, spirits, and beers, along with gourmet bites from Calgary and Edmonton’s top restaurants. In 2017, the they donated over $16,000 to local charities, and this year they’re donating to Mealshare, Calgary and Edmonton Food Banks, and SAIT Culinary Campus and NAIT Culinary Arts program.

Dandy Brewing has released the first two cans in their line up. Hopped wheat ale, “The Bright Young Things”, is available in 4x473mL cans. And they’ve launched the second collaboration with Vancouver’s Twin Sails brewing. “My Boy Lollipop” is a Pink Guava Milkshake sour. Rounding out the entrance into cans is “Prince of The Rodeo” Grapefruit Gose, followed by the “T2G- IPA”, the newest edition to the fulltime Dandy line up.
Alberta Small Brewers Association has launched a new website, Alberta.Beer, to help promote Alberta beer and all the elements that go into making it unique. It showcases the rich culture of the Alberta beer industry, the local ingredients, like Alberta malt barley, as well as the brewers that are known for their experimentation, collaboration and community spirit. The website also has an events page sharing events happening in the province, as well as featuring regular stories about our province’s beer.
