Stouts and Porters

Stouts and porters lie on the dark side of beers. Full of roasted chocolatey/coffee goodness, they used to be mostly winter warmers, but now they are enjoyed year-round. Both stouts and porters come in a variety of styles and can have a huge variance in alcohol strength. These beers also lend themselves to fruit and other adjuncts, much like the proverbial “box of chocolates”. Our 2017 winners demonstrate this diversity. The 2017 Best in Class is Edmonton’s Elbeck Brewing and their Nut N Honey Porter, a smooth brew with a nice blend of sweet honey that leads to a bitter dark chocolate finish. David Nuttall
