Royale Brasserie Française
It’s always exciting to try a new restaurant, so we couldn’t wait to have lunch at Royale in the old Corbeaux spot on 17 Avenue SW. The feel is plush, yet not at all intimidating, and Chef de Cuisine Jean-Phillipe Charpentier’s skills are evident. I just HAD to try the cream of mushroom soup, and then we both saw halibut cheeks on offer and the decision was made. The soup was rich and flavourful, and I wiped the bowl clean with the really good bread automatically brought to the table. 

Joues De Flétan En Papillote translates to halibut cheeks in paper with mixed vegetables – and it’s fun if you don’t know what to expect! At first glance it looked like filo pastry with the fish and veggies inside, but no, it was baking parchment, which is pulled open and lemon beurre blanc poured in while you watch. I really enjoyed it and I’m guessing I’m not alone!
