So enjoying working my way through Whitehall’s lunch and dinner menus! I felt like I was the only foodie in Calgary not to have enjoyed Chef McCue’s double baked cheese soufflé, so I was excited to have opportunity to share it with a friend recently. And the rumours are all true – showing great finesse, it’s everything it’s cracked up to be. Light and fluffy, cheesy and all-round delicious. Just had to try the crispy-battered haddock fillet too, specially as it came with homemade tartar sauce, chips and pease pudding…pease pudding! It certainly lived up to its name; the batter was super-crispy, hiding a moist and tender, perfectly cooked thick chunk of haddock. Another winner.

Goro + Gun
It’s been quite a while since I ventured through Goro + Gun’s doors, so I was glad of an invite to a meet for lunch there recently. The restaurant was lively and jumping – good to see! It was a cold day and I was in the mood for spice and sea food, but my dish of choice – spicy seafood ramen – comes with cold noodles. I’m not a lover of cold pasta or noodles, and I cheekily asked if I could have them hot, and they obliged. It was excellent and just what the doctor ordered. My hot ramen came with cucumbers, tomatoes, seaweed, smoked egg, fresh greens, and sesame vinaigrette in a spicy sauce. Although it was a generous portion, I finished every last morsel. Compliments indeed.
