Ki Modern Japanese + Bar
The new happy hour menu at Ki is available from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. (that’s a very happy four hours by my reckoning!) and has some seven tasty dishes, all at $7 a plate. My favourites are ‘KFC’ (‘what’, I hear you ask?) – Karaage Fried Chicken, crunchy on the outside and moist on the inside, and comes with sriracha honey and scallion ponzu dipping sauces, and Duck Confit Lettuce Wraps with a spicy kabayaki sauce – both finger licking good!
Lunch at River Café is a treat at any time of the year, and I love strolling through Prince’s Island Park to get there, and arriving relaxed. We were thrilled with the amuse bouche of Wood Grilled Pacific Octopus, as we’d been deliberating whether to order it as a starter! And we shared the Fish & Game Board too; the selection of home-cured meats and juniper smoked lox, game terrine and rillette, never fails to impress! Our mains of Columbia River Trout came with sprouted lentil and onion fritters, lobster mushrooms and Brussels sprouts – a hat trick of three impressive and delicious dishes.
The WeatherVane Scallops at One18 Empire are a ‘must try’, and the good news is that they’re on the dinner menu, so you can try them! They’re as big as my palm and sit atop a slice of crispy cooked pork belly, which in turn sits on a bed of polenta with mustard jus. They’re Ocean Wise and from the Pacific. I’ll race you!
