Three of us tried different dishes for brunch at the Fine Diner Bistro in Inglewood, but the stand out dish for me was the special of the day – I think it was called the Big Mess. It had everything you could want in a brunch dish, a good sausage, poached dark yolk eggs, hash medley, house-made Hollandaise, beans and chick peas, kale – perfect to set you up for the day! And I love that the menu prices here include gratuities and GST. Great value!

I’m not used to queuing for food, and couldn’t believe it when spending just one night in Vancouver and going out for a meal to find every restaurant in Vancouver has a 20-person wait for dinner. After wandering the streets for what seemed like an age, we stumbled across Joe Fortes – and joy of joys they had a table for two! What a find – I had no preconceived ideas and went for a classic dish – Joe’s Fresh Seafood Cioppino. It looked beautiful in its own cast iron pot and was chock full of prawns, scallops, crab, calamari, clams, mussels, salmon and white fish. It was pretty huge for one person, but I finished it as it was too good to leave, and then our server told us that he’d never seen anyone finish the dish before – oops!
