The Block Kitchen and Lounge

So happy to see The Block reopen after six long months of refurbishments. The flood last August was devastating, but it’s great to see Chef Kai Salimaki bounce back with new ideas and a new menu. The food is as good as you’ll remember if you ate there before they closed their doors. I love the cheesy croquettes with applewood smoked cheddar, mozzarella and a spicy marinara sauce. They are as oozy as you’d hope!

It’s also hard to beat the comfort food staples of slow cooked brisket with Napa cabbage, parsnip, carrot puree and potato – the meat just falls apart and it’s one of those dishes you hope will never end. Simple roasted chicken breast is the same. It comes with veggies, potato and pan jus – and now there’s a new wall separating the lounge so minors can eat here too – if you can’t finish all your dish, I suspect there’ll be lots of little helpers!
