There are lots of new dishes to enjoy on One18 Empire’s new menu, and some old faves too, but the tuna tataki is worth a special mention – it looks great, and tastes as good as it looks (photo shows a half portion). There are lovely, crunchy seeds on the seared edges, and a light, toasty sesame vinaigrette on the chopped leaves, all under a drizzle of “umami sauce,” yep, we can vouch for that! Treat yourself to a wee dram of scotch with this dish – nothing too heavy or peaty, and enjoy the flavours in your mouth.

I must admit to being completely spoiled for choice when ordering lunch at the Post Hotel recently – it all sounded so good, and I suspect I could have been happy with any dish. But I made the right choice with my warm leek and goat cheese tart. The light pastry crust is carefully covered in a swirl of zucchini, with a sprinkling of duck prosciutto, goat cheese and pine nuts on top, and softened leeks in the centre. It’s one of those dishes you take your time to eat, as you don’t want it to end.
But when I’d finished it, I was more than happy with my perfect lunch portion of grilled B.C. salmon fillet with a dry vermouth sauce, basil pesto, herb fingerling potatoes, and French green beans – all washed down with a glass of house rosé. You can’t help but feel elegant eating here; everything is just so – the service, the food, ambience… I’d jump at the opportunity to do it again!
