Starting out May with some delicious spots to dine around town!
Brand new and enticingly simple and fresh, PZA Parlour is from Tony Nicastro of Ville Firenze. Now here in Southland Crossing (yay for easy parking!) this very attractive new restaurant servesup pizza, pasta, salads and shared appy plates. I can strongly recommend the crispy calamari rings, smoked lemon aioli and marinara sauce – the perfect balance of extra-crispy and deep fried, yet not at all greasy, with a tangy sauce and mayo. Share it if you must.
The crispy zucchini squash chips with fennel-lemon yogurt dip ($10.95) are equally good; the panko breadcrumbs add an extra crunch to the perfectly cooked rings. And don’t miss the pizzas! We tried the Zep that comes topped with ham, shrimp, mushrooms, green peppers, jalapeños, tomato sauce and mozzarella cheese – perfect for people who like a little bit of everything – and the Gio that comes topped with pear slices, and gorgonzola and mozzarella cheese. Easy to devour!

Veggies are the star at this brand new eaterie on 1 Street SW, with meat as the supporting act, and I have to say I love it! My colleague and I tried four shared veggie dishes (the mash with goat yogurt, ver jus and fried egg was sublime. I really could have licked the plate – it was so comforting, and yet such a simple dish. Equally good were the roasted carrots and avocado with pistachio gremalata – fresh, yet earthy and satisfying. If you have time, share a plate of mushroom and kale tempura with two sauces – a mustard aioli and a soy, mirin and dashi sauce – and sip a glass of wine each, you’ll thank me!
