And more congrats to Edmonton’s Bundok, the only restaurant in Alberta to be included in En Route Magazine’s Canada’s Best New Restaurants 2018! How fantastic is that?!

And to Fiasco Gelato, winner of the 2018 ATB Small Business of the Year Award for significant business achievement, and also to Grey Eagle Resort and Casino who won the Indigenous Entrepreneurship Award.

And to CHARCUT/Charbar’s Connie DeSousa for her award as one of SAIT’s 2018 Distinguished Alumni! “I often tell young culinarians that the best thing you can do is to travel,” she says. “Get out of your city, become a sponge and learn as much as you can abroad, but then bring back what you’ve learned — the different cuisines and cultures. Work abroad but then come back home.”

And our last congrats go to the winners of Canada’s Great Kitchen Party Calgary (used to be called Gold Medal Plates): Chef Roy Oh of Anju took bronze, Chef Matthew Batey of the Teatro Group (a past gold medallist) won silver, and Chef Dave Bohati of Murrietta’s took the top slot (also a past gold medallist!).

Nope, one more! Congratulations for restaurant designer, Sarah Ward, for her award as one of Mount Royal University’s 2018 Distinguished Alumni! The Nash in Inglewood was the first project Ward’s firm completed, so she felt she had a lot to prove in its execution. Because of this, it occupies a special spot in her repertoire. “I think we redefined what restaurant design could mean in Calgary and we produced a space that told the story of its neighbourhood and past lives,” she says.
