Domodimonti Picens 2009

A big wine with a big flavour, Picens is a blend of Montepulciano, Sangiovese, Merlot, and Cabernet Sauvignon. From Le Marche on the Adriatic coast of Italy, this wine has delicious notes of dark berries with underlying tones of spices, such as cinnamon, and also a hint of leather on the long finish. It’s a wine that is elegant but rustic at the same time, with fine-grained tannins. It makes me hungry for a loin of pork, with a ratatouille of eggplant, peppers, tomatoes and olives on the side, or if you’re in a hurry, this wine would be great with a puttanesca pasta with mild Italian sausage.
