New renos at JOEY Barlow give restaurant a whole new vibe
It’s been a long time since I ate at JOEY, especially the Barlow Trail location where I used work around the corner when I first came to Calgary in ’03. What a great change!
Apart from the renos, which you can’t help but admire, I love that they are so trusted by diners they can venture out to include some new items on their menu that other eateries might shy away from: night market curry dip with chickpea and coconut curry, and house-baked naan bread; Hawaiian tuna tacos, a mouthful of citrus soy marinade, avocado and chili miso sauce. On a much safer note, the daily changing rotisserie chicken and vegetables (I had hoisin ginger with mashed potatoes, cauliflower and snap peas) is an anytime/every time meal for predictable deliciousness.
With a flourishing cocktail culture in Calgary and so many excellent, dedicated bars and lounges to choose from, you could be forgiven for not immediately thinking of JOEY Barlow. But when you’re deciding where to spend your time and your money on a cocktail, think again: this well-made, tasty, great value cocktail you’ll keep wanting more of.
A combination of fresh-pressed grapefruit juice, egg white, champagne, rosemary and peach vodka, The Leading Lady could be the perfect breakfast – it’s so refreshing and delicious!
